Intercercles FEFB 2017 – Round 1
Europchess had a difficult start in this year’s championship, scoring only 1.5 points in 8 games.
Division 1
Titleholders Europchess 1 got two good draws from Georgi Tomov and Luis Parreira against Ans-Loncin. However, Benjamín Alberola and Johannes Bertram were outplayed by their opponents from the hosting club Amay. Clearly, much stronger performances will be needed in order to repeat the great result of 2016.

Division 2
The second team is starting in Division 2 this year, probably due to a withdrawal or non-promotion of a higher-ranked team of last year. Team captain Luis Busquets gave out the objective of staying in this division, but in Round 1 he was also the only one to contribute to the success of this endeavour. Being a rook and a knight down, he found a way to force a perpetual check against his much higher-rated opponent. Thanos Gkionis, Vladymyr Dedobbeleer and Julien Peyrebrune however lost their games against CREC 2 and Wavre 2 respectively. With this result, Team 2 is so far trailing at the bottom of the table.
