Europchess’ 50th anniversary

On 29th September 2022, Europchess celebrated its 50th anniversary with a vibrant event in support of Ukraine, hosting ukrainian GMs Anna and Mariya Muzychuk, who played in simultaneous mode against 15 players each, with the invaluable support of the Lasker Gesellschaft. The event took place in the Station Europe building at Place de Luxembourg, in Brussels, and showed a fantastic performance of both sisters, who stayed unbeaten, even against very strong players, and conceded only two draws each.

A number of high-ranking officials of the Ukrainian diplomatic service attended the event. After the simultaneous exhibition, a cocktail was offered, during which participants were able to taste ukrainian food and interact (this time not over the board) with our guests.

The society hub continued its work during the following day, with a number of ukrainian young players playing chess during the whole day.

The fasts peaked with the anniversary dinner on 30th September, during which Europchess was awarded the Lasker Gesellschaft prize.

The games played during the exhibition are available here.
