Some weeks ago, the Brussels chess community was shocked and saddened by the sudden passing away of Eddy Mattheys of the Brussels Chess Club. On Monday, 18 December, the BCC held its last blitz tournament of the year in Eddy’s honour, and not less than 50 chess friends found their way to the Candelaershuys in Uccle. Also Europchess was present with a strong delegation of 9 players. In a very competitive tournament, Frank Hoffmeister had the best condition, winning his last three games and the tournament thanks to his direct encounter win against Sim Maerevoet, both scoring 8.5/11. Also Georgi Tomov (6th) and Rossen Rusev (7th) finished in the top 10.
