Tom Wiley, Georgi Tomov
Already in late spring the 2013-2014 edition of the Europchess club championship ended, after nine rounds of rapid chess.
35 players competed this time, although some unfortunately could only join late or had to end the tournament before the last round. Defending champion Tom Wiley and Georgi Tomov both obtained excellent 7.5/9 points. In order to determine the Champion it was agreed to hold a play-off which Georgi won. Behing them, their fellow Europchess-1-team mates Timothy Binham and Frank Hoffmeister followed with 7.0 and 6.5 points respectively.
Besides the top-ranked players, also some others had good performances, exceeding their ratings quite clearly, e.g. Jeremy Rand (6th, 5.5), Vladymyr Dedobbeleer (14th, 5.0), and Luis Carlos Busquets (16th, 4.5), just to name the three biggest outperformers.
The 2014-2015 edition is already underway, again with a very good participation.
