Exhibition of GM Pintér in Brussels

Europchess is pleased to announce a major chess event in the context of the Hungarian EU Presidency at the European Parliament on Thursday 24 February 2011.

Upon our invitation, the famous Hungarian Grand Master József Pinter (2 times Hungarian champion, 12 times Hungarian team champion, member of silver medalist Olympic team, European and World Team Championship silver medalist and successful trainer, team captain), will give an exhibition against 27 European players in the Yehudi Menuhin room from 3 – 6 pm. The event will be opened by the Permanent Representative of Hungary to the EU, Commissioner Vassiliou (invited) and MEP Prof. Schöpflin.

The executive board invites players from our club and from the public to manifest their interest to participate in the event by 11 February 2011. We intend to divide the 27 tables to players from the following categories:

            • 10 best-ranked players from the Europchess championship 2010;
            • 7 players from the Europchess executive board;
            • 2 players from the Council of the European Union;
            • 2 players from the European Parliament;
            • 1 player from the Hungarian Presidency;
            • 3 players not falling in the above-mentioned categories;
            • 1 female player;
            • 1 young player (below 16 years).

Everyone who is interested to participate should please register by sending an email to the organisers. Please provide your name, club affiliation and rating, as the Executive Board will distribute the tables in the categories according to playing strength.

As the event is public, we also invite non-participants to join the exhibition as observers.
