The FEFB Rapid Championship 2019, organised on the car-free Sunday of 22 September, in Braine-l’Alleud, was a rather small tournament with 52 participants. Martin Mueller had an excellent tournament, finishing 5th with 6/9, drawing with FM Herman and IM Capone and beating fellow Europchessian FM Tom Wiley. He only lost to tournament winner IM Godart. On 21 September, SK Dworp organised its 6th Memorial Debast, counting as in previous years as the national blitz championship. New Europchess member Stephen Clark-Foulquier was the best representative of our club on rank 40 with 7.5/13, followed by Mark Ouaki, who scored half a point less, but performed once again clearly above his (blitz) rating. From 19 August to 9 September, Brussels Chess Club organised again its Summer express rapid tournament, with 18 rounds over 6 evenings. Johannes Bertram played the totality of the games, while Luis Parreira was present in all but one of the evenings. Luis finished 10th, 2.32 points above winning expectation. On 8 September, the 13th José & Hilda Tonoli Memorial took place in Anderlecht, counting as in the previous year as national championship for rapid chess. Four Europchess members were among the 159 participants. Paula Gitu, Tom Wiley and Mark Ouaki each scored 6/9.
