Round 10 report

Europchess in the pole position before the final round In Division 4 C, Europchess 1 met CREB 2 which was identified as our main contender at the beginning of the season. However, given the advance in match points secured over the previous rounds, the present match was not decisive for the title anymore. Interclubs 8th round results

Europchess 1 Europchess 1 played in Zottegem 2 a hardly fought match. On board 4, Vladymyr Dedobbeleer achieved an opening advantage with White against a Dutch formation. Rather than taking Black’s weakened f5-pawn, he went for a tactical assault on the queenside. Black was, however, able to equalise and got back into the game after the exchange of queens. After further simplifications Vladymyr offered a draw before the time control, which his opponent accepted...

Interclubs round 7 report

Playing home against the three teams of Epicure, Europchess was able to bring home four important match points. Europchess 1 travelled to play Waregem 2.  Despite heavy snow the previous day, the journey presented no problems.  The first hour’s play produced a worrying moment for Europchess.  Jozsef, playing Black, played a temporary knight sacrifice that seemed, after a series of exchanges, to...

Interclubs 5th round results

Round 5: Europchess keeps the pace In the last round before Christmas, Europchess 1 had to travel to Tournai, near the French border. Weakened by the absence of their first three players, the host team could not put up much resistance. On board 4, as usual, József Barta won the first game, this time with White. His opponent Lorant Liennard (1393) chose the Pirc defence, a risky choice against József in attacking mood. When...
